Elementary School honored at school board meeting

Pittsburg Elementary School was honored at last night's school board meeting. Pictured are Heather Griffin, Elementary School Principal, Jean Carrell, CTE Director, and Dawn Kennington, Elementary Special Programs Coordinator.

Pittsburg ISD educator, Dawn Kennington, placed first for the 2020-2021 statewide ‘Bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) Educator of the Year’ Award by Summit K12, an online, standards-based supplemental curriculum provider that helps close gaps and ensure growth for all students. Dawn Kennington was recognized for improving English language development and Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) readiness at Pittsburg Elementary out of more than 25,000 educators.

The Pittsburg Elementary campus placed in the top ten Elementary Schools in Texas. Pittsburg ISD placed top 25 in school districts out of 300 Districts.
