Pittsburg ISD Families

Pittsburg ISD Families,
I hope this message finds you all doing well. I would like to extend my thanks to our Pittsburg ISD staff, students, and parents for the way you have responded during this stressful time. Thank you for adjusting so quickly to new instructional methods and for your part in our continuation of learning in Pittsburg ISD. I realize that this has been a difficult adjustment for all, and that for some, it has not been easy. We have accomplished a great deal throughout this crisis, and I am continually impressed by the innovative methods our staff has developed to continue instruction and to stay connected with our students. Rest assured that our staff will continue to provide an outstanding and superior learning experience for our students.

I understand many of you are anxious to know what the remainder of our school year will look like. As of now, we are still under restrictions from our local and state authorities in regards to social distancing guidelines. Governor Abbott is expected to give schools guidance in the coming weeks regarding social distancing restrictions.

The end of the school year brings many events and celebrations that we know are important to our students and their families, such as graduation and award ceremonies. Our administration has been carefully considering each of these activites/events. We will finalize and communicate decisions for these activities/events as new information and guidelines become available, in accordance with state and local authority regulations.

We are waiting to make a decision concerning our graduation ceremony, our hope is that some of the restrictions will be loosen so that we can have a more traditional graduation ceremony. When details are finalized we will be sharing that information through all Pittsburg ISD communication channels.

Pittsburg ISD is continuing to utilize online resources and printed packets to provide instruction to all of our students. Governor Abbott made it clear that schools are required to provide and continue instruction throughout the remainder of the 19-20 school year. This will allow schools and students to fulfill their current school calendar, and required minutes of instruction, as required by The Texas Education Agency (TEA).

I can’t stress enough the importance of our students to remain engaged in their learning in order to minimize any learning deficit prior to the start of next school year. Our goal is that students will continue to complete and return their assignments and stay involved in their learning process. This is important to their future success, so they are not trying to catch up next year from missed opportunities this spring.

Pittsburg ISD is continuing to provide meals Monday – Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Our child nutrition staff is awesome and we are so appreciative for all they do.

Pittsburg ISD will be moving to online registration for next school year. If you have not already, please visit our website www.pittsburgisd.net to set up your parent portal in Ascender. The parent portal is required in order to register your student. More details on when to start registering your student for next year will be communicated at a later date.

Please take care and be safe,
“GO PIRATES”
Terry Waldrep, Superintendent
